Fivesquid shut down

A few months ago Fivesquid.com shut down, and took my £12 British Pounds with it…

Dear customer,

It is with extreme regret that I write to advise that I have decided to shut down the fivesquid.com website and close the associated company. Unfortunately, the business can no longer continue to trade due to ongoing trading losses.

The company no longer has employees and, as such, I am unable to deal with any general enquiries. The company has no funds or assets, and there is therefore no possibility of a return to any class of creditor of the company.

The website is likely to be taken down imminently, within the next 48 hours, and an application for dissolution of the company will be submitted in due course.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued custom over the years.

Kind regards,
Terry Koutsios
Managing Director

What was Fivesquid?

Fivesquid was a microgigs website, like Fiverr and SEOClerks. People could list offers for sale starting from as low as £5 British Pounds, and make money selling them to buyer.

In all fairness, Fivesquid was a legit website that operated for many years. The site looked good, it worked well, and they always paid their users. It was never a big income stream for me, but I had some offers there and every once in a while I would make a sale, and make a few British Pounds.

Another great thing about it was that it was aimed at the British market, so it operated with British Pounds as the main currency of the site. As you may or may not know, the British Pound has always been stronger as a currency than the Euro and the US Dollar, so it was wonderful to get paid in that currency. The reason is, if I would list something for sale elsewhere for $5 dollars, I would list it on Fivesquid for £5 British Pounds. In the end, when I made some money, it was a little more than elsewhere. Great stuff 😀

Fivesquid shuts down

Back in August of 2022 I received an email that the site is shutting down. You can see the email on top of this post.

I replied to the email, and I got this automated reply:

A few days later I submitted another request, but I never received a reply.

My £12 British Pounds

The reason I tried contacting the site is because I had £12 British Pounds in my account at the time, and I wanted them to pay me my money!

I did make a withdrawal request when I received the email about the site shutting down, after making sure my withdrawal information was correct in my settings (https://www.fivesquid.com/settings), of course. I had assumed that Fivesquid would send me the money, because they had always been a legitimate website that paid out their members. They had a perfect record.

Unfortunately, a few months later, the website shut down and disappeared. I never received my money, and they never replied to my support tickets.

Here is a video I made talking about this:

Conclusion

The lesson here is one I already learned long ago, and that is to never keep money on any website or payment platform, unless you absolutely have to. Even if a website has a perfect track record, it can turn from legit to scam and disappear overnight. And when it does, your money is gone too.

I don’t even remember why I didn’t withdraw my money from there long ago. I had that money in my balance for months. I guess it just slipped my mind. It happens. Thankfully it wasn’t a big loss. But I know a few other people that lost much more serious amounts when Fivesquid shut down like a scam website, and refused to pay anyone that had money with them.

A few other sites worth mentioning that are still working and are completely legit are Fiverr and SEOClerks. You can make money there as well as find incredible offers to buy at very low prices.

I’m writing this article here because I want it to not be forgotten how they decided to end it, so that if Fivesquid ever returns, the internet will remember!
