Important updates to your access to the YouTube Partner Program

A little while ago I wrote an article when Youtube announced the changes they were making to their partner (monetization) program. I had about 1 month to fulfill the new requirements or lose my monetization.

Here is that article: https://onmoneyline.com/important-updates-to-the-youtube-partner-program/

After the month passed, I lost my monetization. It was not a big deal because I don’t make my money with Youtube monetization. But it was a nice little trickle stream of money that I would have rather kept.

Here is the email I received from Youtube informing me that I was demonetized:

In my previous article I made two mistakes.

  • One was that I thought that you needed to have received 1,000+ Subscribers in the past 12 months. That was not the case. You just had to have over 1,000+ Subscribers total. But because of my mistake, after checking I had about 650 subscribers gained in the past 12 months, so I bought 400 subscribers in order to make the 1,000+ (at that point after my purchase was delivered I had 4,000+ subscribers).

  • The second mistake I made was that I thought you needed over 4,000 watchtime minutes in the past 12 months in order to keep your monetization, and I had over 8,000 watchtime minutes. But it was 4,000 watchtime HOURS I needed, which I did not have. Though it did not matter anyway, because I needed many thousands of hours of watchtime in order to have 4,000 watchtime hours, and at that time Youtube had pretty much killed all Youtube Views providers. No one could provide any Youtube views, so I couldn’t have bought the hours needed even if I was willing to spend the money.

The reason I made the mistakes was because Youtube monetization is not important to me, so I didn’t pay close attention to the situation, and I didn’t want to spend any time researching and looking into it, because I was busy with other things; other things where I actually make money, and have full control over.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, I lost my monetization and so lost that small income stream I had there. I tried keeping my monetization, which is why I bought subscribers. That was pointless because the problem I had were not the subscribers, but the watchtime hours. And as far as the watchtime hours go, I couldn’t have bought them at that time, and I couldn’t have gotten them organically either, as I needed over 3,500+ more watchtime hours in order to keep my monetization.

Hey, at least I got to keep the 400 subscribers I bought, and my channel now has over 4,000+ Subscribers. Kickass!!! ;)
